I’m not big on taking your average run of the mill multi-vitamins.

Not only have they been proven to just make expensive urine, but they actually contribute very little in the over all scheme of things.

Some of them actually tax your system to eliminate from the body. This is the opposite of what they should be doing, which is aiding your health, not making it tougher to get.

When it comes to your Flintstones vitamins, you’re basically just eating rocks

The way those vitamins are formulated are done by taking elemental vitamins and minerals, mostly in industrial chemical form, and jamming them into a couple pills.

When taking vitamins or other supplements, you want to make sure the goods are in bio-available form. That is a form which your body can use, right away, as soon as ingested. Seeing as plants are the only living things that can turn rocks into material that we humans can use, it only makes sense to make sure your vitamins are plant based, or, are plants themselves.

It’s always best to get nutrients as straight from the source as you can. That guarantees they’re fresh and it guarantees that they are bio-available. That being said, you want to get MOST of your nutrients from the foods you eat. That’s why pills are called supplements….because they are meant to SUPPLEMENT your existing intake and add things that you may not be getting from food alone. Here are just a very few of the things I take on a daily basis to make sure I’m getting everything I should be.

Chlorella -

Chlorella is one of the most nutrient dense superfoods in the world. This simple celled algae packs a nutritional punch better then anything else out there.

A one ounce serving of Chlorella contains:
  • Protein—16g
  • Vitamin A—287% RDA
  • Vitamin B2—71% RDA
  • Vitamin B3—33% RDA
  • Iron—202% RDA
  • Magnesium—22% RDA
  • Zinc—133% RDA

In addition to that it also contains a healthy amount of phosphorus and B vitamins.

As if that wasn’t enough for this tiny plant, the one thing that I like it for is it’s high amount of chlorophyll.

Chlorophyll is what makes plants green…you probably knew that…. and it’s also how the plants make their own food from sunlight. You probably knew that too….

But what most people don’t know is that chlorophyll is basically identical to our own hemoglobin, or red blood cells. The structure is EXACTLY the same. The only difference is the nucleus of chlorophyll is magnesium where by the nucleus of hemoglobin is iron. This is the ONLY difference.

It’s for this reason that getting enough chlorophyll in your diet is like giving yourself a plant based blood transfusion. There is no better builder of clean blood cells then chlorophyll.

Benefits include:

It detoxifies Heavy Metals:

If you have fillings in your teeth, eat fish regularly or have been vaccinated, you may have heavy metals lurking in your body. Heavy metals can create havoc inside of your system and should be flushed from your system as much as possible. Chlorella has the ability to wrap itself around stubborn toxins hiding in your body and stop heavy metals from being reabsorbed. If taken on a regular enough basis, it can stop them from being absorbed in the first place.

Detoxifies Radiation and Chemotherapy:

Chlorella’s high levels of chlorophyll have been shown to protect the body against ultraviolet radiation treatments while removing radioactive particles from the body.

According to researchers from Virginia Commonwealth University Medical College, “Cellular components and functions of the immune system remain at or near normal levels and are less adversely affected when patients are undergoing chemotherapy and/or taking immunosuppressive medications such as steroids.”

The university’s two-year study allowed researchers to observe that glioma-positive patients have fewer respiratory infections and flu-like illnesses when taking chlorella

Supports your Immune system:

Researchers from the Yonsei University in Seoul Korea studied healthy individuals and their immune system’s response to chlorella supplements.

The results showed that chlorella supports a healthy immune system response and helps “natural killer” cell activity.

Lowers Blood Sugar and Cholesterol:

Type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol are two of the serious chronic conditions facing many Americans today. Years of improper eating, stress and a lack of sleep have led many to one or both of these diagnoses.

In a study published the Journal of Medicinal Food, researchers found that doses of 8,000 mg of chlorella per day (divided into 2 doses), helps lower cholesterol and blood glucose levels.

Researchers observed first a decline in cholesterol levels, and then the improvement in blood glucose. They believe that chlorella activates a number of genes at the cellular level that improve insulin sensitivity, encouraging a healthy balance.

All of these benefits come pressed into nice, dry, little pills that you can throw back without much taste. While there is some taste, it’s very minimal.

Spirulina -

Spirulina is the cousin of Chlorella and it is a blue green algae that is PACKED with nutrition and micronutrients.

Spirulina is a complete protein, the dried powder being 60% protein, with over 90% assimilation by the human body, far more than most foods. It features all of the essential amino acids, plus 9 more of the non-essential ones.

  • Essential Fatty Acids including Omega 3 and Omega 6
  • Antioxidants from various phytonutrients and Superoxide Dismutase
  • Glyconutrients
  • GLA, a special fat known for its anti-inflammatory effects
  • Glycogen, the only vegetarian source of this energy
  • Rhamnose, a rare, biologically active carbohydrate which delivers nutrients to the cells and across the blood brain barrier*
  • RNA and DNA
  • Chlorophyll

The following values are per 100g of dried spirulina. The percentages are based on the RDI.

  • Vitamin A equiv. (4%) 29 μg
  • Beta-carotene (3%) 342 μg
  • Thiamine (B1) (207%) 2.38 mg
  • Riboflavin (B2) (306%) 3.67 mg
  • Niacin (B3) (85%) 12.82 mg
  • Pantothenic acid (B5) (70%) 3.48 mg
  • Vitamin B6 (28%) 0.364 mg
  • Folate (B9) (24%) 94 μg
  • Vitamin B12 (0%) 0 μg
  • Choline (13%) 66 mg
  • Vitamin C (12%) 10.1 mg
  • Vitamin D (0%) 0 IU
  • Vitamin E (33%) 5 mg
  • Vitamin K (24%) 25.5 μg
  • Calcium (12%) 120 mg
  • Iron (219%) 28.5 mg
  • Magnesium (55%) 195 mg
  • Manganese (90%) 1.9 mg
  • Phosphorus (17%) 118 mg
  • Potassium (29%) 1363 mg
  • Sodium (70%) 1048 mg
  • Zinc (21%) 2mg
I alternate the days that I take Chlorella and Spirulina so that I get all the nutrition that the both provide equally. These will replace your multiviatmins. Long gone are the days of popping open 10 different bottles every night, unsure of what exactly you are swallowing. Between the two of them your chlorophyll intake will be greatly increased and your stores of bio-available vitamins, minerals and phyto-chemicals will be topped off.

Vitamin D -

This is one that most people are deficient in simply because of their modern lifestyle. Vitamin D is known as the “sunshine vitamin” and created by specific enzymes in your skin when they are exposed to sunlight. Vitamin D deficiency can cause low testosterone in men, which means low sex drive. So if you tend to feel more frisky during the summer than the winter, there’s a very good reason for it – increased vitamin D causes your hormones, and your libido, to peak during summer months.

You can recreate this peak and keep it going all year long simply by supplementing daily with high dose vitamin D.

Aside from boosting testosterone, which is wonderful in and of itself, the other benefits from this vitamin are:

Increases bone strength by aiding in calcification of the skeleton.

Helps create strong teeth impervious to cavities.

Helps the cardiovascular system. There is a direct link between Vit. D levels and reduced risk of coronary issues.

Helps your waistline. Higher levels of Vitamin D were synonymous with faster weight loss, particularly around the stomach. If you’re going for that six pack, you want to make sure you’re levels are topped off.

Despite what people think about sun exposure, high levels of vit. D were found to reduce cancer risks by up to 50% or more. And even though you can get what you need during the summer months with a little exposure, you can never over dose on this vitamin making supplementation safe all year around

I still supplement in the summer despite getting a lot of sun and I’ve found that by using this in the summer time in addition to natural sunlight, I develop a very deep and even tan.

I’ve found the currently recommended amounts of Vit D to be riduculously under stated at only 400 iu, daily. This is not enough seeing as only 20 minutes of sun exposure during summer months can create 20,000 iu alone.

I supplement with 10,000 iu daily, sometimes taking 20,000 or 30,000 in winter months.

That's it -

These are all the supplements that I personally take. By limiting the number of supplements I take, I decrease my consumption of fillers which can act as Xenoestrogens.
