-He lost his job earlier.
-He was only trying to get groceries
-He used a counterfeit bill because he probably didnt have money at the time sadly.
-He was under the influence due to addiction
-He didnt want to go to the police station because they would indite him on multiple charges. You need to remember he has a daughter at home etc.

I do feel bad for him. Chauvin shouldnt have been to rough with him IMO but it is what it is.

It is obvious he was high on drugs. He was super paranoid and gave the cops a hard time to handle him. Might even have overdosed as well, and the pressure on his neck as well as his panic on the drugs was what killed him, not just the pressure alone.
