Compact eye area means:
> low-set supraorbital and brow ridge bones and eyebrows
> short vertical eye length
> high-set cheekbones (good under-eye support)
A non-compact eye area can be recognized by high-set orbital bones and eyebrows, vertically long eyes (sometimes with scleral show) and bad under-eye support with low-set cheekbones.
This is probably one of the reasons why white men are generally seen as more attractive than other races; even though they don't necessarily have the bone mass of Asians (e.g. Mongols or Japanese), the majority of white men has low-set supraorbitals, brow ridges and eyebrows and also high-set cheekbones, compared to other races.

A compact eye area looks more masculine, awake, intelligent and "sharp". Guess what? Squinting and smiling too gives the illusion of a more compact eye area by lowering the brows, making the eyes vertically narrower and raising the cheeks. That's why many people look better when they squint or smile and are also perceived as more attractive in pictures.
A non-compact eye area looks weak, submissive, constantly surprised, tired or boring. Compact eye area is something that most models and good-looking people in general have, both male and female. It's at least of equal importance as jaw width (bigonial distance) and even more important than fWHR, IPD, canthal tilt and gonial angle imho.
Something to take note of for all the "muh hunter eyes" copers who think that it's all about canthal tilt and upper eyelid exposure/hooding. Low-set supraorbitals and eyebrows, vertically short eyes and high-set cheekbones are what it comes down to primarily.
