“This study aimed to assess and compare the deformation of 1 circumaxillary suture (zygomaticomaxillary suture [ZMS]) and 1 facial suture (nasofrontal suture [NFS]) during BAMP and reverse-pull headgear (RPHG) treatment.”

“The study was performed ex vivo on 15 pig heads.”

“Our study shows a higher magnitude of sutural separation in BAMP than in RPHG. The pattern of sutural deformation is consistent with a forward displacement of the midface in BAMP compared with an upward and backward rotation in the RPHG. Rotation of the maxilla was also present in some of the subjects who underwent BAMP.”

As to be expected, any sort of appliance which is anchored to the maxilla will be more effective in generating a larger force on the desired area. BAMP is more effective in terms of suture separation and bringing the maxilla forward.

However, RPHG was shown to also induce ccw (upwards and backwards) rotation in the pigs. This is very good news to me and disproves certain ideas that facepulling appliances causes downwards and forward growth.

That's great! ;)

From the same article:
The observed difference in mandibular rotation between RPHG and BAMP is clear. One of the side effects of RPHG is a downward and backward rotation of the mandible, resulting in increased vertical dimension and poor profile appearance, especially in patients with hyperdivergent facial phenotype.3,7,18,31 Preliminary clinical findings from BAMP studies suggest a more anterior bodily movement of the maxilla and posterior movement of the condyle while controlling mandibular rotation.20,32

When they refer to BAMP, this includes using a mask like the BOW on MSE right (bc its bone anchored)?

Not really, BAMP is fully bone anchored (upper plates and lower plates).

All the clinical studies about this are on 9-13 year-olds, though.

Commonly used reverse pull headgears have a retarded model since it pushes on the chin.

Thats why many pslers made a modification to use a neck brace to support the mandible from under, rather than push it back.
