They can definitely tell if someone is tall by comparing two men standing next to each other imo. The difference has to be more than an inch to be noticeable tho. I don't believe the measurement matters tbh. Yeah it's crazy how people's perceptions differentiate.
A female classmate (17) of mine thinks I'm short whereas older women have positively commented on my height numerous times. For example my dentist thought I was 6'3.
I was working in an old people home for two weeks and the old ladies also thought I was tall. Probably because they wouldn't assume I'm average height because of my baby face. I'm only 6' in good shoes.
Conclusion: young women's standards regarding height are significantly higher than older women had some time ago.
