inb4 get a good quality sunscreen

Sunscreens leach up to 360 times more toxic chemicals into the blood than the FDA allows

  • FDA investigators tested six of the main active ingredients in sunscreen lotions and sprays
  • All of the chemicals had concentrations in the blood above the FDA threshold of 0.5 nanograms (ng) per milliliter (mL) of blood plasma
  • Each ingredient was above the threshold seven days after sunscreen was applied and two were above the threshold 21 days after application
  • One chemical at its highest level was 180.1 ng/mL, which is 360 times above the threshold

What a coincidence, a couple days ago I read an article about how sun rays are responsible for 90% of the signs of aging. Was about to buy sunscreen hoping to reduce the effects. RIP I guess

Oh I was waiting for this study to make the rounds on here.
A whistlestop tour of why this study isn't as problematic as you all think:
- Small ass study
- This isn't news. We've known for a while that these compounds can get into your bloodstream. The study in which we found this out also indicates that the current recommended threshold might not be overly relevant.
- The study was carried out to imitate "maximal conditions". So 2mg of sunscreen, per square cm of skin, on minimum 75% of the body, 4 applications a day. No way in hell are you using that much.
- The testing wasn't overly thorough in terms of skin type, sunscreen formulation, participant age, etc.
- The study also states that individuals should not refrain from the use of sunscreen.
- Remember that just because something ends up in your bloodstream, it doesn't make it dangerous.

TLDR: More research needed, media reporting is fucking shite.

Why do threads like this exist?

Tales from the daily mail

Never saw the sun

Or you could just move to an area without much sun (a.k.a. Alaska).

idc + dn rd. I use sunscreen when going out on a beach.

Chemical sunscreen vs topical sunscreen, topical is probably bad too but better than getting blasted with UV rays on your face

Does all skincare do this shit?
