Vitamin C
a.k.a ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient important in collagen production, immunity, and is an antioxidant.

Benefits

Antioxidant
  • Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which can help combat free radicals,
  • A free radical is a molecule that has at least one unpaired electron, which makes it unstable. To become stable, the free radical takes an electron away from another atom, which makes that atom unstable, and starts a chain reaction that can injure cells.
  • Too many free radicals lead to oxidative stress, which can cause fatigue, brainfog, headaches, and faster aging. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that can prevent free radical damage. It does this by donating an electron to the free radical.

Free radicals sources include
  • UV light
  • Air pollution
  • Smoking
  • Fried foods
  • Sugar
  • Inflamation

Collagen
Vitamin C is absolutely essential for synthesis of collagen. Vitamin C is the essential cofactor for the two enzymes required for collagen synthesis: prolyl hydroxylase (to stabilize the collagen molecule) and lysyl hydroxylase (to give structural strength cross-linking).

Supplements

Why Vitamin C Is

NOT Easily Absorbed

Our bodies have a difficult time absorbing vitamin C when consumed orally through food or supplements.
  • Vitamin C is water-soluble, not fat-soluble, which means it can’t get into the essential part of the cells, which consist of fatty tissue and membranes.
  • Vitamin C not absorbed is quickly excreted out the kidneys into urine.

Liposomal Vitamin C
  • This form of vitamin C made by injecting it into microscopic spheres. Each sphere has two layers and is made from phospholipid fats, the same kinds of fats that make up human cell membranes.
  • Your body sees the liposome sphere just as it does any other dietary fats, and it gets easily absorbed by the lymphatic system.
  • Studies have shown that phospholipid fats are almost entirely absorbed, usually over 90%, and quickly show up in blood plasma

The one below is recommended. It uses ascorbyl palmitate instead of ascorbic acid, for a higher absorption rate.

Here is another good one at a lower price, though it uses ascorbic acid

Face Serum
Vitamin C serum is an important part of a good skin care routine for fighting free radical damage and boosting collagen production.

  • Use in evening preferably
  • Look for L-ascorbic acid. Other forms like sodium ascorbyl phosphate are less effective.
  • Ferulic acid can extend the shelf life and potency of Vitamin C
