Was this a missed opportunity or not a big deal? Did I react the right way?

Today I was walking through campus to meet a friend who is still in college. A 7/10 and a 9/10 were walking across from me. The 7/10 said "hi" to me. I looked in the opposite direction because I thought she was talking to someone else. She then looked directly at me and said "hi" again and smiled. I Said "hi" back and smiled at her.

Do you think I should of stopped her and asked her a few questions (such as what year are you) and eventually ask her to hangout? Thoughts?
