What's the Inspiration behind the TikTok logo?

TikTok was designed to inspire creativity and brings joy to fans and creators across the globe. Inside the app, users are pulled into a world filled with individuals showcasing their authentic self through comedy, dancing, sports, oddly-satisfying videos and more.
Inspired by TikTok's mission, the designer of TikTok's logo wanted to create a logo that spoke to the stage that TikTok created for so many talented people.
The designer is a young man who loves attending concerts, especially rock concerts. The idea of the logo was inspired as he stood in the large crowd surrounded by darkness looking up at the bright stage. He wanted to emulate this experience in his design. He wanted to create a logo that would reflect the experience of being in a theater of sorts and watching creators express themselves. To do this, the designer chose the color black as the background of the logo to excite users for the performances behind the app.
Once the sketch of the music note was completed, the designer wanted it to look distinctive against the black background. So, he added an electronic wave effect to the 2D design. He tried multiple iterations of the music note and then selected the one that was most appealing to the eye.
As he was creating the complete logo, the designer not only wanted it to stand out from the other apps on the home screen, but he wanted to resonate with the users' experience on TikTok. He wanted it to feel cool and exciting.
