Oliver McCall and Vitali Klitschko are heavyweights most famous due to their obscene punch resistance, with neither of them being knocked down once in their careers.

Now anthony joshua and floyd patterson are heavyweight fighters NOT known for having a solid ability to take a punch.

Punch resistance is mostly natural. It's not just based on the development of the skull or on the strength of the neck, but also on mental and neurological factors. After all, a knockout is the result of sensory overload.
Funnily enough, this is why people high on drugs can often take a great shot because their senses are numbed, or overridden.

Besides, the other Klitschko brother, Wladimir, was chinny and had much poorer punch resistance than his brother.

Another common denominator in punch resistance seems to be bone density. Joe Joyce, someone who is known for having a granite chin, has bones that are 5 times stronger than the average human being:

Is that why brock lesnar struggles taking punches despite his skull and huge neck? He could tank shots from Mark Hunt and Shane Carwin, whom is considered one of the hardest hitters to enter the UFC so I doubt his jaw is glass.

That's awesome... I wonder how Mark Hunt or David Tua would do on a test like this 🤭

Lesnar turtles because he feels pain when taking shots, not because he can't endure it... In his case it's mostly conditioning (entered MMA too late in life, he's a grappler) not chin.

it's not just chin. most fighters have textbook warrior skulls and great craniofacial development.
