 inb4 I know there are several applications that can measure ratios even more easily than my method, and you can use that application because it's easier and don't ask me what the application is because I don't know myself, maybe you can ask in the reply section with other people.

What is a Pixel? A Pixel is a small point that carries specific colors. When these pixels are combined, they form a digital image.

So, the pictures, videos, or anything you see on your phone screen, monitor, and other devices are composed of pixels arranged in rows to display an image.

Pixels, in calculations, serve as a scale. An easy analogy is like calculating the scale on a map learned during middle school.

Pixels are not a precise standard and depend on the image quality. Therefore, there's no fixed notion that 1 pixel = 1 cm. Pixels are merely used for comparison.

For example, in the image below:

there are two objects: a large Coca-Cola bottle and a Coca-Cola can. The height of the large Coca-Cola bottle is 18.8cm.

Pixel height of the large Coca-Cola bottle is 1351px, while the Coca-Cola can has a pixel height of 744px.

Find the height of the Coca-Cola can using the pixel scaling formula:

Given:
Y = Px of the bottle: 1349px
X = Original size of the bottle: 18.8cm
Z = Can: 794px

Question:
Original size of the can: ???

Answer:

Formula👇
X = known original length
Y = known length in pixels
Z = length in pixels to be found

To find the original length:
X ÷ Y × Z

18.8 ÷ 1349 × 794=11.0653818cm ✅
So, the original height of the Coca-Cola can is 11cm!

And indeed, a quick Google search confirms that the actual height of the Coca-Cola can is approximately 12cm which means almost right.

In summary, that's how it works!

And perhaps now you're wondering how I know the pixel count and how to measure my ratio?

I personally use the ibis Paint X app on my smartphone

and you can also measure this on a computer through different app.

To calculate your ratio using pixel scaling in ibis Paint X:

1. Open and select the photo you want to measure the ratio for. (I use pic of Chico for example)

2. Since I want to measure IPD, I'll draw a line;

Untitled142 20231122115519

you can use a ruler to draw a straight line.

3. After drawing the line, tap on the pen icon, then select "Canvas."

4. Choose "Trim."

IMG 20231122 120456

5. You'll see a blue line indicated by a red arrow; drag it along the line you drew, and the value below will change.

IMG 20231122 120937

6. Drag the blue line to the other line you drew earlier; for me, it was 264px.

IMG 20231122 121043

7. Repeat for the other line; mine was 126px.

IMG 20231122 121203

Now, divide the results of the two lines:

For me, 126px:264px
So, Chico's IPD is 0.477272727.

Other Example:

IMG 20231122 190114

128:128
=1

IMG 20231122 190059

269:146
=1.84

What's special about this method is that you can measure anything as long as you know the size in real life of something, and you can even expose people LARPing about their height or other thing:feelswhere:.

To measure angles, I use an angle meter app, and the app itself should explain how to use it.

Here some example from angle meter:

Of course, this method has its drawbacks and isn't always accurate. Pay attention to the angles taken, lens distortion, etc., for more precise results.

True... or you could just use the ruler in Photoshop.
