This is such a simple idea that I don't know why it isn't discussed more. Species have a carrying capacity, when a carrying capacity is reached a population ceases to grow. The causation of technological progress is nothing more than a result of a population growing. , there is a natural barrier to the population that cannot be extended even with technological advances.
When a population of a species stagnates it is not always through starvation, rather the birth rate naturally falls as scarcity sets in. Since the 1970s we've entered a general period of scarcity, and unsurprisingly, birth rates have dropped. Dropping birth rates inevitably has come about in the form of hypergamy.
Unfortunately, the type of system we humans have developed does not cope well with stagnation. Our money creation system is based on a growth model with debt always exceeding supply by design. Our trade system relies on innovation, otherwise the profit margins are small. As the population stalls, then reverses, we will see a decline in every sector of humanity.
Those who will persist through this stagnation period must not follow the crowd, rather, they must forge their own path, and live a more autonomous life. The less reliant you are on the declining system the better off you'll be.
