Firstly, what is hormesis?
“Hormesis in aging is represented by mild stress-induced stimulation of protective mechanisms in cells and organisms resulting in biologically beneficial effects. Single or multiple exposure to low doses of otherwise harmful agents, such as irradiation, food limitation, heat stress, hypergravity, reactive oxygen species and other free radicals have a variety of anti-aging and longevity-extending hormetic effects.“
Hormesis is the most obvious mechanism of which snake venom could extend lifespan, but I’m going to emphasize that it may not be the only mechanism. Snake venom is a highly bioactive concoction, with a myriad of types and many evolutionary components at play in its genesis. But I have no lead on any potential mechanisms besides hormesis as of now.
There is no scientific literature on the use of snake venoms for the purpose of life extension, but two individuals are evidence of its effectiveness.
Bill Haast had injected himself with snake venom for over 60 years for the purpose of immunity, from 32 species, and lived to 100. According to on source, only 0.0173% of Americans live to at least 100, and according to another source, only 15% of centenarians are male.
Another man, Steve Ludwin, injects snake venom for the purpose of immunity and health.
“Over the past few decades, Ludwin has alternated between daily doses of poisonous venom and just one injection every few months. He led this sole endeavor on his belief that injections would not only lead to immunity, but improve his health and make him feel younger”
So, snake venom maxxing has potential for antiagemaxxing, but more research is needed. Would be nice to have animal studies or clinical trials.
