If talented ugly people are ignored in favor of more attractive but less talented idiots, capitalism cannot be a meritocratic system. It's all about looks, how you present yourself (which is looks) and the image of your company (which is determined by looks).
Actually, I'd argue that most people are too stupid to make smart purchasing decisions in general. They don't read content labels, rarely do their homework, are easily fooled by dumb advertising, etc. Jfl even Americans current failure to stop Russia in Ukraine is largely because its overpriced weapons don't work despite the promises made by the weapons companies that charged them through the nose for them.
