There's something universal among us, whether rich or poor, good looking or not, strong or weak: hope. Even among animals, they share this trait. It's one of the few constants every living being shares. Everyone hopes they're making the right choices to succeed, that their circumstances improve mentally, physically, or materially, or that someone else's situation does. And if it's not hope for improvement, it's hope that the situation does not get worse. We all hope, and hope keeps you going, the one who loses hope loses the will to live.
