Harvard falls under the Ivies. I'm talking about colleges like Swarthmore, Williams, Amherst, Pomona, Carleton, etc.

By "other colleges" I'm mostly referring to flagship state schools like UCLA, UC Berkeley, UW, UNC, etc. as well as larger private schools like USC, Northwestern, Duke, etc.

That's very fascinating, why do you think Candidate 1 has a better chance at UC Berkeley than at, say, Cornell?

I think Candidate 1 would still get into Cornell given its size and fit. I think that Candidate 1 would fit better, and thus be more likely to get accepted, into UC Berkeley than, say, Brown, Princeton, or Harvard, (they'd also do better in Penn and Dartmouth admissions wise).

Take everything I say with a grain of salt though, I'm not an expert, nor have I done enough research on this topic.
