Producers want your $$$ so they make such brainwashing commercials convincing women that you have to "prove your love" by offering them romantic stuff, which requires loads of money.

Nowadays for many women even being good-looking is not enough. You gotta buy her expensive perfumes, drive her in your luxurious car tracing "I love you" on the beach in Mallorca to have a chance with her.
