Yeah I guess so, but they do this only in cases where the intervertebral space has been reduced due to age-related degeneration. No sane surgeon would perform it in healthy young teens with normal discs as increasing the intervertebral disc too much (beyond normal limits) could compromise spine stability and so on

Astronauts exapnd 2 in space so spinal expansion is possible and you have 23 discs so you dont need to inflate each of them by that much. Just .04-.08 in each is cool
