Handwriting: the black-pill of Academics
Since the dawn of time, scholars, professors, and some of the most important intellectuals in history have relied on one common factor to determine their success:
writing things down. If you are in school, you have the firsthand experience of being constantly subjected to handwriting requirements, whether it be in math, English, or any other class you've ever taken. The importance of handwriting dates all the way back to the medieval period, where scribes were trained to write neatly or would find themselves unemployed upon absence of this skill.

Why does it matter?
It's not a surprise to many that for your whole life, your intellect has been judged solely by your academic presentation whether that be in school, work, or just in general. While some may say a major aspect of this presentation is the actual content and knowledge you have to offer, in most circumstances if you can not present or articulate this knowledge properly, it does not matter. If you are illegible in one way or another, you will notice you are not taken as seriously in any context both social, or curricular. Knowing this, we can apply that fundamental to handwriting. When your work is being judged or graded by a peer or teacher, the first thing they notice is the presentation of the work. Let's dive into some examples

Now, take a look at this example of handwriting. What first comes to mind?

Hmm... it seems obvious this was likely written by a child, or retard. Just look at the disgusting alignment of letters and indentation, it looks like a combination of a serial killer message and some third-worlder's attempt at written English.

Now, let's move on to the next example.

Oh wow. Just look at that perfect handwriting. The spacing. The font. The CONSISTENCY. This truly is an absolutely chad attempt at writing.

The Effects
Now. Let's go back to how this aspect influences how you are perceived. We know that presentation is important, but how important? Important enough to be triumphant of actual content? Well I invite you to look back to the "neat" handwriting example. You will notice a plethora of typos and misspelled words. It is more likely than not your brain read over these simply because of how neat it was. This effect is noticeable not only in the actual cleanliness and style of handwriting, but in overall presentation of important written documents and texts.

How do I improve and become an assignment slayer?

There are numerous ways to become more skilled at the craft of handwriting and cleanliness to increase your intellectual appearance. Here are a few.

1. Utensil-maxxing
You always want to put yourself in a position and give yourself the best possible resources to allow you to do so. The same goes for handwriting, so in terms of the specific writing utensil to optimize this process, it is important to prioritize a few factors including the following.
  • Pencils: Honestly, pencils are not the best way to go in terms of writing due to factors such as smudging, inconsistency, and having a more often than not blunt tip. Nonetheless there are ways to use pencils and not result in illegible and sub-human writing. These include ALWAYS try to use mechanical pencils. Since mechanical pencils have a more fine tip in the form of a cylindrical piece of graphite, it is generally more precise than a standard cone-shaped polygon of a regular pencil. Try to use sizes of 0.7mm+ in terms of lead size for these pencils. Here are links to some aesthetic mechanical pencil choices:
  • Pens: pens are generally the way to go. The fine ballpoint nature of these writing tools allows for the smooth transcribing of any task. Also, typically when using black ink, pen writing is immediately easier to read and more clear for those judging your writing. I advise to steer away from the erasable pen demographic, as the chemical making them erasable is heat activated and can tend to fade when in certain climates or conditions. Here are some good pens to go for:

2. Writing on lined paper
Writing on lined paper often allows you to hone in on your skills of staying in the margins, which is highly important when considering the attractiveness of handwriting. It improves character height, readability, and general cleanliness. You can purchase this from most general stores or online shopping sites.

3. Practice
This one is obvious. Try to practice handwriting in your free time and set goals for yourself involving specific aspects of your style.

Conclusion
Handwriting and overall cleanliness of your scribing skills plays a pivotal role in your professional success, and anybody who takes their academic success seriously should employ tactics to improve your skills.
