Roosevelt was a communist. He kept Soviet Union, a diabolical meat grinder of a country afloat with massive amounts of equipment and raw resources worth billions, hundreds of billions when adjusted for inflation. And the primary reason Soviet Union was struggling against Germany was because they had planned to attack Germany themselves and were caught completely off-guard on offensive positions.
Roosevelt starved Japan from oil, because he was itching so hard to make profits for the American military industry, when the American public overwhelmingly were against any possible intervention at the expense of American blood. By starving Japan from oil, this practically cut off Japan from any foreign trade and put a halt to their war in China. This left japanese only two options, to withdraw from China, which Roosevelt knew the japanese as very honor based society would not do under any conditions, or fight the United States. Finally Japan was forced to attack Pearl Harbor and Germany responded in solidarity to their ally by giving Roosevelt the war he always wanted, now Roosevelt could claim it was Germany and Japan that wanted to destroy United States, and that's why they attacked. Japan had obviously made a massive miscalculation, because their plan was to make Roosevelt withdraw the oil embargo after a decisive strike on U.S. Pacific fleet, but they just didn't know that is what Roosevelt wanted all along.
