By far the most simple and effective way to lean down is to COUNT CALORIES. This is obvious but needs to be stressed, the laws of thermodynamics are gonna dictate whether you lose or gain weight. Calories in, calories out.
It's impossible to eyeball the calories in your meals to know if you should keep eating or not. Any magical diet may work in the short term, but you're not gonna get 6-pack abs just by "not eating carbs" or "eating whole foods" IF YOU'RE NOT COUNTING THE CALORIES.
Is it a pain in the ass to weigh all your food? Maybe, but when you get used to it it's gonna become second nature (and it'll make it "harder" to eat, so you won't eat as much).
Calculate your BMR (basal metabolic rate) https://www.calculator.net/calorie-calculator.html, download MyFitnessPal to log your meals, and just eat that amount of calories EVERY DAY. Shouldn't aim to lose more than 2 pounds per week, it's a slow process.
What about nutrition? Eat as much protein as possible (builds muscle) and yes, try to eat healthy. But you can absolutely get to crazy low levels of body fat eating junk (again, don't).
Wanna make it make even easier? Do intermittent fasting. When you fast, insulin levels drop and you're not hungry. It's easier to fast than to eat very little, because everytime you eat you raise your insulin and you get hungry.
Eat 2 huge meals a day (8-hour window) while NOT being hungry the rest of it, and COUNT THE CALORIES. Literally effortless.
