The maxilla does not grow forward. When people say "forward growth" they're being retarded.

People made up this "forward growth"/"downward growth" dichotomy that doesn't really exist.

Look at the sutures of the maxilla:

The maxilla grows downwards/forwards.

For the most part, if you have "downward growth" your face didn't grow downward ENOUGH.

yes, some people have more/less forward projection but this is probably a growth pattern which is more a factor of GENETICS - why would a stunted maxilla continue to grow downward but not forward when it grows downward at a 45 degree angle?

It’s primarily the rotation and the width of the maxilla that is altered in recession. Recession causes the maxilla to be rotated in a way so that it is less forward and longer vertically.

The term “upswing” describes proper growth of the profile.
