What is your opinion on Universal Basic Income (UBI)?

Most Americans laugh at the idea of UBI now, but what will happen when automation becomes so proficient that all manuel labor, fast food, delivery, and driving jobs become completely and 100% automated? Unemployment will bump up nationwide to at least 35%.

McDonald's is currently working on a new line of robots that will accomplish this. And if successful, most other businesses will probably follow suit.

UBI will become essential in a relatively quick timespan, probably in the next 40 years or so.

We in Finland have basic income for unemployed and universal basic income for everyone is in testing. Problem is that many with shit educations or no good career possibilities refuse to work because they can live comfortably anyways and taking job like cleaner or telemarketing could even drop their income.
In tomorrows societies where everything is run by robots it is a must though.

Even when automation fully takes over, most Americans are so opposed to socialism that it will still take decades of reprogramming to persuade them to the necessity of a UBI.

I suspect most menial labor jobs will be automated in the next 20 years. But America will only implement a UBI after another 20-30 years of mass unemployment, homelessness, and abject poverty.
