Fras I thought about this a little bit more and I want to add one more point. There can be conflict, tension and violence, but not all of it results in the fabric of nations being torn apart. Only those conflicts which are underlined by ethnic or racial differences tend to devolve into conflicts which breed massive instability for any nation. Very few nations are truly homogenous, but if there aren't sufficient inter-ethnic similarities to bind communities together, civil war, secession and balkanization is inevitable.

Yes all of this is true, but that doesn't make nationalism a cope. It has a biological basis behind it. There are differences between Saxons and Celtics. When civilizations are in their nascent stages, there's bound to be violence and conflict even between slightly dissimilar tribes and peoples. But once all of those nation states were settled, conflict stopped. WW I was fought due primarily due to greed, not solely due to nationalism. Nationalism means preserving the sanctity of the settlement of ethnically similar people; it can be twisted into causing men to go to war over greed and profit, but that's not nationalism is in its essence. Now that WWs are over, we have peaceful unions such as the UK, and EU. However, we can't have a union with radically incompatible people, such as blacks and whites together. It just can't happen. Its a forced integration at this point.And before that war happened, which again, was basically British people fighting British people, England slaughtered the Irish for centuries, slaughtered the Scots for centuries, you name it.
