Because there has been an increasing influx of new members to the community. I have taken the initiative to create this manual in order to familiarize new members with the collective standards of beauty and the PSL scale. This guide will provide you with a comprehensive overview of what is valued most when it comes to beauty.

The notion of beauty is often subjective, differing among individuals. Nonetheless, it predominantly holds an objective aspect, with specific facial attributes commonly perceived as appealing. This guide will delve into the prevalent features that play a role in Male facial attractiveness, offering rankings of appeal for both males and females.

PSL Scale

Let's kick things off by clarifying PSL and the PSL scale, which many of you might have come across without understanding its meaning. PSL stands for the amalgamation of three defunct forums: PUAHate, SlutHate, and Lookism. Looksmax.org is often considered as the spiritual successor to Lookism.

The PSL scale is a way to figure out how attractive someone is based solely on their face. The central idea behind PSL ratings is not purely finding ones SMV/appeal, but it can be better described as giving objective ratings based on Facial Harmony, Balance, Symmetry, Sexual Dimorphism, Unique qualities, and averageness.

Because a facial rating of 10 or even 9 doesn't exist, the PSL scale only ranges up to 8, with 4 serving as the midpoint. To determine an individual's real-life rating score, you can utilize their PSL score and simpily add to it approximately 1.5 to 1.75 points.

Aspects of beauty

Having discussed the PSL scale and its rankings for individuals, let's delve into various facial features and explore why some are perceived as attractive while others are not.

The Eye Area
The region around your eyes holds significant importance, rivaling that of your jaw. In the blackpill community they say "Eyes are the prize". If your eye area lacks appeal, your attractiveness could be compromised severly. Eyes that emanate a compelling and intense gaze are referred to as hunter eyes, whereas eyes that convey a more delicate and fatigued appearance are known as prey eyes. The eyes encompass and are primarily influenced by the following factors.
The primary factor influencing the assessment of eye attractiveness lies in this aspect. Ideally, the width of the eye should be three times its vertical height, a measurement termed the PFL (palpebral fissure length). Attractiveness is associated with a well-defined medial canthus, which refers to the inner corner of the eye. Additionally, a straighter upper lid and a tighter lower lid with minimal visible sclera (white of the eye) are considered appealing as well.
An ideal canthal tilt falls within the range of 5-7 degrees, or a slightly towards positive tilt. Beyond 10 degrees, the appearance can become too catlike, while negative tilt can lead to a tired, droopy, and uninviting look.
Neglecting your eyebrows while working on your looks is among the most detrimental mistakes. Your eyebrows play a vital role in enhancing your eye area. Well-maintained eyebrows are characterized by their darkness, density, and thickness, as they also serve as an indicator of good health. For men, eyebrows that are positioned lower are generally preferred. Ideally, eyebrows that possess a slightly positive tilt are desirable, while eyebrows with a negative tilt can create the perception of droopy eyes. True low-set eyebrows will exhibit minimal to no vertical space between the eyes and the eyebrow.
Eyes shouldn't be excessively close or wide apart. The ideal interpupillary distance, which is the space between pupils, is around 44.5% to 47% of facial width for men. Another way to gauge is by ensuring the eyes are approximately one eye width apart.
Having an excessive upper eyelid exposure is not preferred, as it can result in a tired and rounded look for the eyes. The ideal situation is to have minimal to no eyelid exposure.
Deep-set eyes are a masculine characteristic in men and are often accompanied by a prominent brow ridge. This creates the impression that the eyes are set deeper into the skull, providing a protective effect. This stands in contrast to bulging eyes, which are generally considered unattractive.
Having adequate bone mass around the eyes helps in avoiding the appearance of dark circles and sunken under-eye bags. Conversely, lack of under eye support can have a detrimental impact on overall eye aesthetics.
While the fundamental feautures mentioned earlier constitute the essence of the eye area. Eye color and eye lashes can serve as a cherry on top, shades such as blue, gray, hazel, and green are often viewed as exotic and can provide effective contrast and distinctively curled eyelashes can elegantly frame your eyes and create the illusion of a longer PFL.

The nose
The nose can possess some imperfections and still maintain a sense of harmony. Nose shape is going to largely be subjective in terms of attractiveness. Various ethnicities exhibit diverse nose shapes, all of which can still exhibit a sense of harmony within reasonable bounds. The nose is primarily influenced by the following factors.

Diverse nasal angles in the side profile play a role in achieving a harmonious nose. These angles can display slight variations depending on one's ethnicity, with Asian individuals often having slightly higher nasofrontal angles, though these are only general principles.

Nasofrontal angles typically fall between 106-130 degrees, with sharper angles being preferred in men.

Nasiolabial angles ranging from 90-117 degrees, where more pronounced angles contribute to a more masculine and less upturned appearance of the nose.

The nasofacial angle typically ranges from 30-40 degrees, indicating a normal alignment. Facial convexity and overall facial proportions also hold significance, but their calculations require more detailed effort.
The perfect nose shape differs across ethnicities, yet a slender bridge that widens toward the base is generally preferred.

It's favorable to have minimal nostril visibility or upturn. When viewed from the front, the nose should neither appear overly bulbous nor exhibit asymmetry. Its width should fit between the eyes.

Even more feminine nose shapes are deemed acceptable as long as they remain within reasonable proximity to these outlined ideals.

The Jaw
The realm of facial beauty places significant emphasis on the jaw area, often hailed as the most crucial aspect with only the eye area rivalling its importance. A strong and chiseled jawline is traditionally associated with masculinity. It is often seen as a sign of physical strength. As previously mentioned, in the blackpill community, a common sentiment is that "Eyes are the prize", and they also emphasize that "Jaw is law". The Jaw area encompasses and is primarily influenced by the following factors.
The significance of the jawline is on par with the eye area it should not be recessed or overly protruding, which can signal issues related to malocclusion or bite alignment problems. An excess of body fat can obscure the definition of the jawline.
In men, possessing a longer ramus is a trait associated with sexual dimorphism, resulting in more sought-after jaw shapes and angles. This also results in the gonion being positioned below the mouth line, which is considered attractive.
In men, sharper gonial angles are favored, contributing to stronger, more masculine jawlines. The optimal gonial angle for men typically falls within the range of 112-123 degrees, although slightly more obtuse angles up to 126 degrees can also be considered attractive. Generally, having a gonial angle exceeding 130 degrees is less desirable and results in less attractive jawlines.
The width of the jaw should ideally range from 85% to 93% of the width of the cheekbones, striking a balance between not being too narrow or excessively wide.
The mandible should exhibit forward growth, with an ideal ratio of ramus length to mandible length being 5:7.
The chin in men should ideally have a vertical height that ranges from 2 to 2.5 times that of the philtrum. It's important for the chin to be in harmony with the overall facial structure, avoiding excessive size or protrusion.
The jawline should maintain a balanced appearance in frontal view, avoiding excessive incline or flatness. Typically, the most attractive faces exhibit an angle ranging from 84 to 97 degrees for the jawline, with slight variations being acceptable. To maintain facial harmony, the ipsilateral alar angle should stay within 15 degrees of this angle, ideally falling in the range of 0 to 5 degrees.

The lips
Lips hold significant importance in matters of beauty and should not be overlooked. Lips are highly expressive and contribute to non-verbal communication. They can convey emotions such as happiness, sensuality, or playfulness, making them a focal point during social interactions. The components contributing to the formation of lips include.
In contrast to common belief, fuller lips are actually considered a masculine trait and more desirable.
A well-defined cupid's bow and an upwardly curved philtrum are essential elements.
Lip shape can exhibit diversity among different ethnicities, yet a more consistent and straight lip seal is generally favored over an irregular one.
The ideal lip width in men should be greater than that of the nose, typically ranging from 1.42 to 1.56 times wider.

Furthermore, the lower lip's vertical height should ideally be 1.5 to 2 times greater than that of the upper lip.
In a side profile view, it's preferable for the upper lip to extend slightly beyond the lower lip. Furthermore, when considering the nasomental line or E line, the upper lip should ideally rest a bit further back behind the line compared to the lower lip.

Facial harmony
Some individuals on the forum may find it challenging to grasp the concept of harmony and may perceive it as a term encompassing other aspects of facial features. However, it is indeed a distinct and standalone concept. In essence, harmony revolves around proportions, not facial features, even though those features play a pivotal role in creating those proportions. Facial harmony consists of the following aspects.
The face can be divided into imaginary horizontal thirds, with each segment ideally occupying one-third of the face's total height. This means the forehead should account for one-third, the mid-face another third, and the lips and chin the final and lower third, each approximately 33%. A slightly larger lower third is also preferred on men.
Many models exhibit some degree of facial asymmetry. When this asymmetry isn't excessively prominent, it typically doesn't impact facial attractiveness. However, asymmetry in areas that naturally draw our attention, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth, tends to be more noticeable
The midface ratio quantifies the space between your pupils in relation to the height of your midface. An ideal range for men typically falls between 0.95 to 1.0. A longer midface results in a horseface.
A high facial width-to-height ratio is considered an appealing trait. Among attractive men, ratios ranging from 1.9 to 2.05 appear to be prevalent. Conversely, a lower FWHR ratio may create the impression of a longer face, and faces that are excessively compact are also generally considered less attractive.
The width of the forehead should ideally match that of the jaw. When the forehead is significantly larger than the jaw and tapers down to a narrower jaw width, it can create a resemblance to a lightbulb in appearance.

The cheekbones
Well-defined cheekbones are characterized by their elevation. High cheekbones are a feature that transcends gender associations, they are a universal sign of optimal facial development. The higher they are set, the more favorable they are considered. On the other hand, excessively low cheekbones are considered a flaw, and result in a facial appearance that resembles a melting or sagging effect.

In general, men tend to exhibit less pronounced zygomatic bones compared to women. This difference arises from the greater projection of the nose, jaw, and brow ridge in men, which can make the cheekbones appear less prominent by comparison. However, some degree of cheekbone prominence is still considered desirable.

You can identify elevated cheekbones through the following characteristics:

  • Widest part of the face will be near the eyes if cheekbones are set high
  • Ogee curve in 3/4 profile
  • Ogee curve in frontal view
  • The ogee curve's outline constitutes more than half of the midface length, and a shorter outline typically signifies cheekbones that are positioned lower
  • The presence of slight protrusion near the eyes indicates the elevated placement of the cheekbones
  • The greater the protrusion, the higher set the cheekbones tend to be

Skin, hair, and health
Skin, hair, and overall health are crucial aspects. Even if you possess outstanding features and perfect harmony, having unhealthy or unattractive skin can diminish your overall appeal. The same with a receding hairline, it can detract from your beauty and disrupt the facial proportions. Smooth, clear skin and thick, lustrous hair are often associated with youthfulness.
Having healthy, unblemished skin plays a significant role in physical attraction. Skin should predominantly be free of imperfections like blemishes, acne, scars, and wrinkles. For men, overly smooth skin isn't typically preferred, a slight texture or a hint of graininess is often favored over a completely baby-faced appearance.

Facial features like nasolabial folds and forehead creases are generally considered unattractive.

Uneven skin tone resulting from sun damage can diminish the appearance of healthy skin. Excessively pale skin may appear unhealthy, so a subtle tan or a hint of a beta-carotene yellowish tint is often considered ideal.
The white part of the eye, known as the sclera, should appear healthy and predominantly free of red or blue veins, as well as any yellowish discoloration.
Hair should be thick and have minimal recession. A slightly M-shaped hairline is often favored over a perfectly straight one.
In men, darker hair colors are generally more preferred, with black and brown hair being significantly more attractive than blonde or red hair. Having good facial hair density can also be considered a desirable bonus.

To sum up, we've covered the key elements that characterize male facial attractiveness from a PSL perspective, which solely focuses on the face and nothing more. To gauge your overall attractiveness, including other factors, you should calculate your SMV.

Is it possible for someone to ascend the ranks of the PSL scale? The answer is yes, Advancing on the PSL scale is certainly achievable, but you should not be overly optimistic. There's always a cap on how many points you can gain. Begin by evaluating your current level of attractiveness and address each issue methodically. Start with softer improvements, and only consider more drastic changes like surgery if you have a significant flaw in your facial features.

It's not advisable to undergo a surgery for an aspect of your face that's already satisfactory. Instead, focus on enhancing areas where you have room for improvement.
