Is this Just an American thing?? Because when i was in college i chatted at least once with every Person in my lecture and all of them were useless bums with as much weight in the industry as me. At some point i got help from a dude i never Spoke to After i ranted in the group chat but i didn't even bother to respond to him (living in Milano doing finance Is a meme anyway, After you subtract the living expenses you earn less than a construction worker in the Town). JFL legit talking to people doesn't do anything, it's Just about how they feel about you and if they feel some symphaty towards you you could get some referral otherwise they won't It doesn't matter if you went to take coffee together everyday or Just saw each other during the lectures and never Spoke lmao

It was going on trips to Alpine resorts in the winter and an in summer they'd go to all kinds of vacations. Plus a lot of clubbing in high end places. It might sound like an excuse to party, which was definitely a big part of it, but it exposes students to people who are already in the industry and run companies/have high positions. It is also brutal for poorcels because this lifestyle is very expensive.

It's probably more brutal for finance and business than other fields, but I can see the same applying to other prestigious universities regardless of what they teach.

A rich LTN will do much better in business school networking with fellow rich students and people in the industry than a poor Chad who can barely afford rent for his closet in the wall room.

Society isn't very meritocratic, networking exists to attract more of the same typically.
