I get gains from weightlifting, but there’s always this sense of utter pointlessness to it. In the middle of workouts, when I start to get tired, I often feel like stopping because I just can’t see how this will improve my life to a substantial degree.
How do you keep on putting your best effort into your weight training when you know that it won’t get you girls, friends, money, etc?
Only consistent strength gains make me feel good mentally. Increasing my squat weight by a few kilos each weak makes me feel good mentally, but newbie gains will soon cease. When I hit hard plateaus in my progress, which certainly will happen, the mental feel-good fuel that keeps me going will stop. How do you train hard without seeing fast, consistent, and ego-boosting progress?
