5'9 Swedish guy saying he gets heightmogged by most women in his country (i.e. they're 5'10+)

5'9.5 German woman saying she's a femlet in the Netherlands

Italian woman saying average girl in her old hs is 5'11

Dutch Guy claiming he's dated multiple 6'5 Dutch women

Someone (again Dutch) saying 5'7 is average for 12-year-old girls

5'10 Polish woman saying she feels short in Poland

German woman saying average for hs girls is above 5'7

American 5'8 woman saying she feels average in the US

6'3 guy saying he gets mogged by half of men and 25% of women in the Netherlands, implying 25% of women there are 6'4+

Not even the biggest rotters here say shit like this. Most of the examples in this case are Dutch, they're the worst when it comes to these tales, but I've seen similar stories about other countries too in other posts (funniest one was a "6'3" Thai guy saying he doesn't feel tall in Thailand, but I digress). Makes you appreciate this place a bit, it's actually pretty realistic in comparison.

But it does make me curious: I know for a fact these anecdotes aren't true, I live in a country with an average height very close to most of the ones mentioned there, above in some cases. What causes people to be THAT off? Like, does the guy saying his 5'10 gf is a femlet, or the woman saying 5'11 is common for schoolgirls in Italy of all places, actually believe it, or are they trolling? I know studies say the average person overestimates their height, but this bad? What's the explanation for this phenomenon? Are redditors bigger rotters than looksmaxxers, or are they just normies and normies really are that clueless about height?

Probably some kind of cognitive bias.

When I walk past manlets (I'm actually one myself at 5'9) I don't really give a fuck.

But when I get heightmogged I tend to remember it and it kinda ruins my day a little bit, even if the guy was just 5'10.

In their heads, the only people in the country are the people taller than them. People believe what they want to believe.

OK for fairness I'm gonna have to step on the other side of the argument for a bit. 6'0 in most western countries is just about noticeably above average, I wouldn't say it's "super rare" or even tall to the point where people will often point it out. It's far from manlet, and most women are ok with it, but imo it's not enough to be completely free of height dysphoria and be "the big guy", which is 6'2 for me. If the stats are to be believed 6'0 is in the 20th percentile in the US, so probably like 30-40 in Europe.
