Probably because they already have a consolidated national identity and they already have 1st world living conditions so they'd see no point in doing that

Because back then the White Canadians saw themselves as British subjects and the rebel colonists as traitors. Remember even in the US itself there were many loyalists who wanted to remain part of the British Empire. Also of course there were Native Americans in Canada who had even less in common with the US colonists and wanted nothing to do with them
