100 years ago in 1923, Detroit was like 90 something percent white. Most blacks, like my grandparents, came to Detroit from the south during the 1920s-1950s. My grandparents came from Alabama. After the riots, in 1967, lots of whites left the inner city and moved to the suburbs. Me and my dad went to the same high school. I saw his yearbook and he graduated in 1976. In his yearbook, the majority of the students at the school were white with a sizable minority of blacks. By the time I went there in the 2000s, there were ZERO white students and 100 percent black students.

So black people actually gentrified Detroit and pushed out all the white people
